About Dr Dilini De Silva
Trained in Two Traditions, Practicing as One
It’s not common to find this combination in Wellington. Dr Dilini holds a full medical degree in classical Ayurveda from Sri Lanka, plus a postgraduate qualification in public health from Victoria University of Wellington.
Credentials
What the Qualifications Actually Mean
A lot of Ayurveda websites in New Zealand mention a practitioner’s name and leave it there. Here’s what Dr Dilini is actually qualified in, and why it matters.
BAMS (Hons)
University of Colombo, Sri Lanka
A Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery is a full medical degree, not a certificate course. The University of Colombo runs one of the most established BAMS programs in South Asia.
MSc Health Promotion
Victoria University of Wellington
This master’s degree covers how health systems work in a New Zealand context: population health, behaviour change, and the public health frameworks most patients here are already familiar with.
NHPNZ Registered
Practitioner #3033
Dr Dilini is registered with the Natural Health Practitioners of New Zealand under two modalities: Ayurvedic Medicine, and Yoga and Health Promotion. Not every Ayurvedic practice in the country holds this kind of registration.
Philosophy
Understanding You as a Whole
Ayurveda works from your individual constitution — your prakriti — rather than a standard treatment plan. That’s why the first consultation is mostly listening and asking questions before anything gets recommended. Dr Dilini considers your overall constitution and circumstances, not just the symptom itself.
Why Two Traditions
Ancient Training, New Zealand Context
Classical Ayurvedic training gives Dr Dilini the assessment and treatment frameworks refined over centuries. Her New Zealand public health qualification is what lets her apply that safely alongside the healthcare system her patients are already using. Leaving either one out would mean working with half the picture.
How We Practice
One Practitioner, Every Visit
Jasmine Ayu Lanka runs from a private home clinic in Wellington, which was a deliberate choice. There’s no roster of practitioners and no fifteen-minute slots. You’ll see Dr Dilini every time, starting with your first consultation.
